2020 Ohio PBIS Bronze Recognition Award Winners

Constellation Schools: Parma Community Elementary
Constellation Schools: Parma Community Pearl Road Elementary
Constellation Schools: Parma Community Intermediate
Constellation Schools: Parma Community High

These 4 buildings were recognized for their success with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at the 2020 Ohio PBIS Showcase in conjunction with the Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC) virtual conference on December 15, 2020.

In 2020, all four school buildings applied and earned the Bronze level award for PBIS. They are 4 of only 215 award-winning schools throughout the state of Ohio to be recognized at the Bronze level.

Since 2015, Ohio PBIS Network first started recognizing schools who were model examples of strong PBIS. What is PBIS you may be wondering? PBIS involves teaching students expected behaviors in a consistent and positive way, modeling and acknowledging those behaviors, and helping all students meet expectations and be successful. PBIS has shown to improve student achievement, student behavior, and school climate.

Principal Walden said, “The heart of our PBIS program is reflected in our PBIS mission statement: At Parma Community, we are dedicated to the development of character and academic skills of all of our students, by creating and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment using PBIS. As part of our PBIS model, we are dedicated to supporting our students and families, and we have found that we have the greatest impact through our PBIS program at all four buildings.”

For the 2019/2020 school year, each school building had their own Acronym for PBIS. Clearly, the staff, students and families all took pride themselves as Constellation Schools: Parma Community Aviators who promoted each PBIS theme as seen below.

At both K-3rd grade buildings, Constellation Schools: Parma Community Elementary and Constellation Schools: Parma Community Pearl Road Elementary used “SOAR” meaning:

S- Safe O- Organized A- Accountable R- Respectful

At Constellation Schools: Parma Community Intermediate, they used “RSVP” meaning:

R- Respectful S- Be Safe V- Be a Voice P- Be Positive

At Constellation Schools: Parma Community High, they used “FLY RIGHT” meaning:

R- Respect I- Inspire G- Grow H- Help T- Thrive

Principal Leah Walden emphasized, “I am proud of our PBIS program and the growth we have seen over the past four years. Our teachers are invested in the program and work hard to teach our students positive behavior strategies so that they are successful in all future endeavors.”

In addition to being recognized at this conference, the Constellation Schools: Parma Community PBIS Team will also be leading a presentation discussing “PBIS in the Remote Learning Setting” at this year’s showcase. This presentation will highlight how the Parma Community PBIS teams have adapted PBIS practices within the remote setting and successful PBIS remote practices.

Congratulations on your Bronze Award!
