Parma Community Elementary Extra-Curricular Activities

Art Club
Students in art club learn about a variety of different art techniques as well as learn about some art history. This group is for current 2nd and 3rd grade students. The club meets every Tuesday from 3:45 PM - 4:30 PM.

Garden Club
Students in Garden Club help to maintain the flowers around the grounds and inside. The students learn about the life cycle of plants and other Earth science items. We meet on Tuesdays from 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM.

Yearbook
Students work together to create the yearbook for staff and students to enjoy. This club encourages collaboration skills and creativity while promoting the arts and public relations.

Student Care Patrol
The Student Care Patrol recruits third graders to serve on the patrol, promoting a safe and friendly environment by being role models and leaders for their fellow classmates. The Student Care Patrol is on duty in the halls in the mornings before announcements and during dismissal. Students on the patrol wear a blue lanyard with their name tag and they carry a clipboard. The patrol greets students, lends a helping hand when needed, keeps the hallways safe, and offer friendly reminders to classmates to follow the school rules. They hand out "Caught Being Good" slips to fellow classmates showing good character. The goal of the Student Care Patrol is to show, spread and promote good character.

Choir
Students in choir focus on the music standards and the development of their voices. Students learn higher levels of singing and perform once a year. We meet on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

Student Play
Students in 2nd and 3rd grade have the opportunity to audition for the student play. This year it will be Lion King Kids. This club helps to engage students that are interested in the performing arts at a young age. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

Springboard Before & After School Program
The Springboard program provides activities based on academic research regarding student learning - academic skills, social-emotional development, physical well-being and healthy choices. Our programs deliver exciting, motivating and fun activities.

Book Club
Students complete book studies related to various genres.

ASL
Students learn various words in American Sign Language.

Jump Rope Club
Students work together on various jump roping skills and other physical education activities.

Makerspace
Students learn various technology skills and apply these skills to projects.

Math Tournament Team
Students experience hands on math activities promoting group work on tasks and the application of math concepts to real world problems. Students realize the importance of math and where it is used. In Math Club, we explore math in a variety of ways, learning and enjoying math in an outside of the box method.

Music Club
Students practice reading and performing music in a choir setting. It promotes student vocal expression through musical performances throughout the year.

Art Club
Students build art skills, help around the art room, create fun projects, and have the opportunity to complete a community service project in Parma. Art Club is a fun, after school activity where students can continue to build their art skills.

Aviator Creators
Aviator Creators include 3D printing, coding, robotics, some craft supplies, Lego/blocks creations, and more!

Basketball Club
Student participants learn fundamental basketball skills and compete in a variety of fun games.

Ski Club
Students take ski lessons and enjoy downhill skiing at Boston Mills & Brandywine Ski Resort. It creates fellowship and opportunities to enjoy fitness oriented fun.

Green Team
Students participate in a weekly collection of paper and cardboard items throughout the building and at St. Francis de Sales church next door. It promotes environmental awareness and the importance of recycling.

Yearbook
Students work together to create the yearbook for staff and students to enjoy. It builds a sense of school community, encouraging collaboration skills and creativity.

Science Fair
Students learn how to apply the scientific method in experiments as well as hone their presentation skills as they present their experiments and findings to the judges.

Student Council
A group of students elected by their fellow students to represent them in school government. It promotes a positive school environment by organizing school events, fundraisers, and more. We meet every second and fourth Monday of the month.


Parma Community Middle Extra-Curricular Activities

Volleyball
Our co-ed team consists of students in 7th and 8th grade. It promotes team work and physical fitness for middle school students. Practice is held on Mondays and Fridays from 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM.

Basketball
Our basketball team meets twice a week for practice from August - December, with games played weekly beginning in October. Basketball promotes good sportsmanship, respect, and perseverance through learning about the game of basketball and promoting athletic skills.

Soccer
It promotes team work and physical fitness for middle school students. Practice is held on Mondays in the spring from 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM. ‚Äč

Flag Football
We meet on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM out on the field behind the school. Students are placed into teams and compete against the other 7th grade teams. The number of players on each team is TBD. Students are provided the rules and expectations specifying behavioral and academic requirements to compete.

Bowling
Our co-ed team consists of students in 7th and 8th grade. Practices take place at an off-site location. Season runs from April to May.

National Junior Honor Society
Students participate in community service activities while maintaining high academic standards. It creates student leadership responsibilities while tying in academic excellence and community service.

Yearbook
Students work collaboratively to design and produce the school yearbook for students and staff to enjoy. Yearbook promotes socialization and collaboration skills, creativity, and technology.

Student Council
A group of students elected by their fellow students to represent them in school government. It promotes a positive school environment by organizing school events, fundraisers, and more. We meet on Thursdays for the whole school year.

Book Club
Students gain reading skills and become better readers in Book Club. We meet every other Wednesday from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

First Lego League
First Lego League is a world-wide competition based on STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts with a focus on "coopertition," in which teams compete to solve a real-world program while maintaining teamwork, inclusion, and persistence. First Lego League teams also are asked to build and program robots to demonstrate their STEM skills. It is a program that develops a variety of skills in a team environment. Artist, mathematicians, builders, designers, and financial experts all can benefit by working with FLL and be part of a team.

On December 8th, Parma Community Hyperflashes competed in the Avon Middle School FLL Robotics Competition where they were able to demonstrate their project that started in September. After competing, the Hyperflashes were awarded the Core Values trophy. Core Values is a key component to FLL; the team was excited to be recognized for their commitment to teamwork, inclusions, persistence, and creativity.

Character Club
Teachers and staff members nominate students each month for their outstanding character. It promotes positive self-esteem, good role models, and positive social interaction.

Basketball Club
Students have the opportunity to work and play basketball as a team during open gym, promoting physical fitness. We meet on Thursdays from 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM.

Game Club
Students connect with others who share a common interest in gaming. It encourages social skills, communication, and interaction with peers.

Ski & Snowboard Club
This club is open to all students to ski or snowboard at Brandywine Ski Resort. Students can have fun while learning or improving their skiing or snowboarding ability. It creates fellowship and encourages social interaction. The Ski and Snowboard Club goes on 5 trips every season on Saturday evenings.

Art Club
Students further explore various media without concern for a grade.

Community Service Club
This student led community service organization offers assistance in the school and surrounding community.

Comedy Club
Students learn how to use humor to express emotions, form connections, and solve problems.

Jazz Ensemble
The small jazz ensemble is comprised of 10-17 students. It promotes ensemble playing within the jazz idiom. We meet on Wednesdays from 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM.

Marching Band
Students are given the opportunity to participate in different ensembles, performing in a large setting with CHHS. We meet everyday during 6th period from August to October.

Soccer
Our co-ed team practices and plays soccer throughout the year. Outdoor fall and spring practices are held on Thursdays after school, while indoor winter practices are held on Wednesdays in the gym. All skill levels are welcome!

Volleyball
Students learn and practice skills while developing the mind, body, and spirit for the game of volleyball. They compete against different teams and participate in round robin tournaments. We meet on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:30 PM.

War & the Silver Screen
Students view some of the greatest war or military films in history in an informal setting, extending knowledge beyond the classroom. It provides appreciation for the pain, loss, sacrifice, and heroism of war.

National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is a national organization that was established in 1921 to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, the National Honor Society recognizes those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

At Constellation Schools: Parma Community High's chapter, we encourage our members to continue to grow in these four areas, and also to make a positive difference in our school and community. Our chapter has meetings after school every other Friday. Members also collect recyclables twice a month and plan additional meetings as needed in order to organize and implement a service project each school year.

Academic Challenge
Students test their knowledge and compete in trivia rounds featured on the Academic Challenge show.

Class Advisors
Students in each class have the opportunity to campaign, run for election, organize fundraisers and plan events. It promotes collaboration, time management, financial planning, and class government system.

Yearbook
Students work together to design and produce the school yearbook for staff and students to enjoy. It promotes collaboration skills, creativity, technology, and design integration.

Robotics
Team 4780 is a part of FIRST® Robotics Competition, the world-class varsity sport for the mind. Students work with professional engineers, programmers, and entrepreneurs to gain experience in STEM related fields. They design and build a robot using industry standard hardware and software, and compete in a completely unique game each season.

Jam Club
Students bring their guitars, keyboards, drums, basses, amps, microphones, etc. to the auditorium for a jam session each week on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:30 PM. Students form clusters of mini bands in an effort to hammer out and perfect a playlist of songs depending on each clusters’ choice of rock music.

Students develop their skills under the tutelage of Mr. Gainer (drums), and Mrs. Kadow & Mr. Samsa (guitar). Students practice, rehearse, improvise, and collaborate, as any rock band does. Students, once reaching the pinnacle of their skills, will perform for parents in an evening recital. Jam Club will develop mastery of musical talent, hone performance skills, and foster collaboration, camaraderie, and cohesion by playing together as a rock band.

Creative Writing Club
The creative writing club will meet every other Thursday from 3:15-4:30 PM. Creative writing games and activities will let the students practice their skills and build off of each others' ideas. Students will create and workshop their own writing pieces and may choose some activities and pathways--hosting a poetry night at school, working with local poets and writers, etc.
